Delicious L4yer Cake

I know it is almost 3 in the morning. I know I should be sleeping (though I quell that thought by remembering IT'S SUMMER). But I just finished L4yer Cake, the 2004 British gangster film. And it was so fantastic, I am almost beyond words. 

Ok, it certainly helped that Daniel Craig was in it. Sure, he is, to put it politely, attractive (to me anyway; many of my friends very openly tell me it is a debatable fact). Over and above that, however, he is a fantastic actor. Everyone in it was. And the story was dynamite - twisty, fast, emotional, nerve-wracking. Hard to fully comprehend in just one sitting, it was so dense yet tightly woven. Yet the style was so simple. Which was necessary, with such a complex plot. Nothing was overdone, and the sex, drugs, and violence was not gratuitous or unnecessary. 

I'm trying to remember when was the last time I saw such a great movie. I had the same urge to immediately re-watch Iron Man, but they're such different genres and different food for my movie appetites I'm not sure I can compare them. Casino Royale and The Borne Ultimatum certainly compare. But the last time I really had this feeling was Inside Man. Which was three years ago. Woah, that's a long time.

Or maybe I've just been a film student too long. 

P.S. - Just so anyone who cares knows, I will be doing a big Lost response. I 1) have had other things to do, and B) feel I need a second viewing of the episode.
